Tar macadam and asphalt materials have improved massively in recent years and are becoming stronger and more flexible especially heavy duty materials being used on commercial and industrial projects with SMA and HRA being popular options for surface courses, SMA – Stone Mastic Asphalt and HRA – Hot Rolled Asphalt are durable surfacing materials suitable for heavily trafficked areas such as residential roads, carriageways and factory’s and are designed to with take heavy traffic, heavy plant, and for example forklifts and articulated delivery lorries. These areas are usually machine laid but small areas can be hand laid.
